For the last two years of the Old Car Festival, Apple Knockers has put on a Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest on the west side of their restaurant. They pick five contestants from the Vicksburg area who seem like they are big eaters. The first year the winner only consumed six hot dogs in the ten minutes he was given to eat as many as possible. The second year, the winner improved upon that number with eight hot dogs eaten. The crowd enjoys the work of MC Bill Johnson in egging on the contestants. Staff of Apple Knockers, dress in rain coats, just in case there is a problem, according to Angie Palomaki, co-owner of the restaurant.
