Vicksburg varsity basketball finally returned to home court after six straight road games and came away with a big 71-64 win over rival Edwardsburg.
The team is now 6-7, but the win over Edwardsburg certainly didn’t come easily. The Bulldogs nearly let things get away from them near the end as the Eddies got the game as close as two in the last five minutes.
The team did a good job clamping down on defense at the finish and sunk some vital free throws to put the game out of reach. Junior Trenton Lomason was a big factor early in the game as he got open and sank several threes on his way to 17 points.
But in the second half, it was the Deondre Lovell show. The senior found ways to score from all over the court all evening and he ended the night with 33 points. Most spectacular was a one-handed dunk late in the game that made the crowd roar.
Since returning from winter break, the team has lost to Plainwell 62-59, St. Joseph 52-51, South Haven 73-66 and won against Dowagiac 65-56, Allegan 64-56, Sturgis 59-53. “We’ve had our hard luck finishing games,” Johnson said. But one can’t deny the entertainment factor of the games thus far.
