Despite losing seven seniors last season, the Vicksburg varsity volleyball team is exhibiting the same scrappy and exciting type of play that won them a District 34B title last fall.
“This young group just works their butts off,” Head Coach Katrina Miller said on Sept. 14, after the girls downed Sturgis in three straight sets. The match was much closer than it looked, especially in the second set where the teams went back and forth on game point 24-24, 25-25 before the Lady Bulldogs finally pulled away for the 28-26 win.
This year’s team only has two seniors in team captain Anna Schriemer and Morgan Preston. “They’re two of the best leaders I’ve ever had,” Miller said. And both can play. Schriemer had three aces, 16 kills and 48 assists at the Portage Northern Invitational.
