The first Annual Ed Knapp Baseball Tournament and a special dedication ceremony will be held April 26, 2025, at Knapp Field.
Coach Knapp, longtime teacher and coach for Vicksburg Athletics, passed away last October, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, integrity and hard work. In his decades of teaching and coaching he positively impacted thousands of students and athletes. Current Varsity Baseball Coach Brian Deal wants to honor his former coach.
Vicksburg’s baseball field was originally named Knapp Field in the 1980s. But well into the 2000’s, Knapp continued to improve the diamond and field, providing the energy and enthusiasm to the many improvements: grass infield, better dugouts, press box and concessions are just a few upgrades he inspired.
Coach Deal noticed the original sign was fading and with Knapp’s passing felt it was the perfect time to honor his former coach “and all that he stood for.”
New signs, designed by KalBlue, hang on the fence, and during the dedication ceremony, Coach Knapp’s number 17 will be retired. Deal hopes many of Knapp’s former players will be in attendance.
On April 26, the dedication ceremony will take place at 10:15 a.m. with the opening pitch to follow at 10:30. Three teams are participating: Boyne City, Harper Creek, and Vicksburg. The community is invited.
