Schoolcraft Friday Packs wins grant

Annemarie Clark, Alicia Abfall, Shannon Bruner, Stephanie Buckham & Jeff Buckham, Jr. Clark, Abfall & Bruner are all board members for Schoolcraft Friday Packs.

Schoolcraft Friday Packs was recently awarded a $2,500 grant to fight food insecurity in the community by the Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund (ACF). Grant funds will be used to provide healthy, non-perishable foods that students can use for weekend meals and snacks.

Schoolcraft Friday Packs is one of eight organizations in Michigan to receive a Feeding the Future Grant from the ACF in August. Organizations are nominated by a local Farm Bureau Insurance agent and selected by a committee of ACF donors based on the need of the organization, population being served, and overall goal of the program. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations can utilize Michigan Farm Bureau’s Find an Agent tool to locate an agent in their area.

The Buckham Agency, a Farm Bureau Insurance agent in Portage, nominated Schoolcraft Friday Packs for the grant. As Jeff and Stephanie Buckham said, “It only takes spending a few minutes with the president of Schoolcraft Friday Packs, Shannon Bruner, to understand the passion and heart behind the organization and their dedication to helping children who face food insecurity.”

The Buckhams are founding members of the Agent Charitable Fund and became passionate about alleviating food insecurity while serving as licensed foster parents and seeing firsthand the effects this issue has on children.
