by | Nov 2025 | Sports

The Schoolcraft Eagles trap team has finished its regular fall season. The team is in Class 1-Conference 6 with teams from Armada High School, Covenant Christian High School, Frankenmuth High School, Pittsford Area High School, Quincy High School, Valley Lutheran High School and Williamston High School. During the season the schools compete, not by traveling to each other’s shooting ranges, but by matching scores. Each team shoots and is closely watched by coaches for safety and proper techniques. After that, all scores are added up and reported to the conference. Each team shoots 6 different times and combines all 6 scores. Once the season is completed, the scores will determine the winner in the conference.

The teams are a combination of girls and boys in grades 6-12. All compete together for team scores but also compete as individuals in their gender. This season’s champion in the conference was Williamston High School with a total score of 4,588.50 points. Armada took 2nd with 4,289.00 points. Quincy secured the 3rd spot at 3,785.00 points followed by Schoolcraft in 4th overall with 3,751.50 points. Pittsford finished with 3,364.00, Valley Lutheran had 3,276.50, Frankenmuth finished with 2,510.50, and Covenant had 1,195.00.

Schoolcraft girls had 5 in the top 25 shooters in the conference. Rachel Dykema tied for the 4th top shooter with a total average of 20.50 trap broken out of 25 thrown. Addison Smith finished in 10th place with an average of 18.50, Jillian Colby took 16th at an average of 13.90, Schoolcraft’s exchange student from Ukraine, Olia Yefimchuk, was in 20th place with 12.20, and Julianna Hoggard was 24th with 7.60 average.

On the boys’ side, 5 boys also made the top 25. Caden Fritts took the top spot finishing off a great season, averaging 24.50 traps hit out of every 25 thrown. Brady Chobot followed Caden in 3rd place with a 23.80 average. Caden finished 5th overall among all 936 shooters in the State of Michigan while Brady Chobot finished 18th out of the 936. Both those shooters also made All-State. Finley Bizer finished in 19th with an average of 21.20 while 8th grader Keaton Westfall finished tied with his teammate JJ Nagy for 25th spot at 20.60.
