Nurse anesthetist Gena Welch, a 1994 graduate of Vicksburg High School has been elected as the new president of the Michigan Association of Nurse Anesthetists for the 2025-26 term.

Welch, a certified registered nurse anesthetist – a CRNA, has risen in a profession whose practitioners independently provide anesthesia and related care for patients undergoing surgical, therapeutic, diagnostic, and obstetrical procedures.

Welch serves the Flint community as director of the University of Michigan-Flint nurse anesthesia program and as a staff CRNA at Hurley Medical Center.

“It is both an honor and a profound responsibility to serve as president,” said Welch, of Lake Orion. “Our greatest strength as CRNA lies in our unity. Whether in rural hospitals, urban trauma centers, outpatient clinics, or classrooms, we are bound together by a shared mission: delivering safe, high-quality anesthesia care to the patients who depend on us. When we stand as one voice, our message cannot be ignored.”
