Vicksburg veteran information needed

by | Apr 2026 | Community

Attention: Vicksburg area veterans!

The Village of Vicksburg and VFW Post 5189 are once again seeking veterans for the Vicksburg Veterans Banner program to honor Vicksburg area veterans.

Banners made with the veteran’s military photo will be installed on downtown light posts. They will be flown for a period during the month of May to include Memorial Day, then will be removed. They will be installed again in mid-October and removed again after Veterans Day. The goal is again to fill all of the light posts in the downtown area. There will be a cost incurred for each veteran or veteran’s family for creating the banner, raising and lowering the banner. The banners will be stored by the Village until next year’s Memorial Day.

This year we have received financial help from the Lion’s Club, Rotary Club, Vicksburg Foundation, and the Village of Vicksburg. If there is a veteran, or family of a deceased veteran, who would like to have a banner displayed but is not financially able to do so, they will try to help financially.

For more information, contact the Village of Vicksburg at 269-649-1919, or VFW Commander Jim Schippers at 269-760-7391. Applications need to include all the required information and may be picked up at the Village Hall, 126 N. Kalamazoo St. A completed application, military photo, and DD-214 form should be returned to the Village Hall as soon as possible.
