It was a great birthday!

Thanks to all you friends
I’m still on cloud nine!
The mail carrier must have worked hard
But getting 148 cards suited me fine.

I got six lovely bouquets,
Several gifts were surprises for me,
Some took me to lavish dinners
And small lunches suited me to a T.

As a child, we never had very much
I was cared for, with love,
My Grandma and Mom did what they could
Maybe God helped a bit, from above.

I married a good man, an only child, too,
We were both lonely, so what did we do?
A big family of six was wanted, then we’d be done,
And that’s what we got, a house full of fun.

So many adventures, our family shared,
A house filled with music and joy,
When traveling, we put up a tent
We tried to please every girl and boy.

Too soon, the kids were growing up
They took lessons, went to camps,
I was so happy, when baby Laurie came last
Their lives were being lived so fast.

Now I’m alone, I’m 100 years old
We’ve had an interesting life for sure,
The kids have done well, but 3 have died,
A hard thing for a parent to endure.

Life slips away too fast
Maybe I’ll hang on another five years,
I’m now watching the Great-Grands grow up
I love it here, and don’t plan to shed tears.

Remember all that has gone before
Life has been very good to me,
I’ll be relaxing on a cloud,
Drinking a cup of tea.
