The Big Read Machine is once again hitting the road this summer, bringing books, learning, and excitement directly to children throughout the Vicksburg community.
From mid-June through mid-August, the Big Read Machine bookmobile provides free access to books and encourages children to keep reading while school is out. The program is open to all area children—there is no need to be a Vicksburg school student or to have a library card to check out books.
Sponsored by the Vicksburg Community Schools Foundation, the Big Read Machine helps make reading accessible, convenient, and fun throughout the summer months. Children can browse the collection, borrow books, and discover new favorites at any of the bookmobile’s seven neighborhood stops.
The program is made possible through the dedication of volunteers, including students from the Vicksburg High School National Honor Society, Vicksburg Community Schools Foundation trustees, and other community volunteers who staff the bookmobile throughout the summer.
Parents, grandparents, and caregivers are encouraged to bring children to any of the seven scheduled stops to enjoy this free community resource. Whether the child is an avid reader or just discovering the joy of books, the Big Read Machine offers something for every age and reading level.
