I had a visitor today
It flew to my kitchen door,
A whistle was how it called me
It was simply returned, you see.
Smaller than the size of my hand
Happy and carefree as could be,
It even decided to warble a song,
I clapped my hands, to agree.
Then I named him “Chip,”
He was a cute little fellow,
His mama was keeping an eye on him
Under his wing, marked with yellow.
I wondered where his nest was
But I was just a little kid.
He beckoned me to fly and play
I couldn’t fly, on any day.
Then I picked up some toast, I gave it a toss
He was happy to get a treat.
My little friend just flew away
I stuck to the ground and stayed on my feet.
His mom was watching, up in that tree
Going up high was too hard for me,
I watched until Chip fluttered away
Then I saw “Susie,” waiting to play.
Susie was outside, bouncing a ball,
Mom brought cookies, a party for two,
This was better than flying in a tree
And those birds were happy, too!
