Kalamazoo County State Bank’s directors have recognized Board Chairman Thorne Angell for a half-century of distinguished service.
“It is a great honor to recognize Thorne for his extraordinary 50 years of service on the bank’s Board of Directors,” said KCSB President and CEO Scott Hines. “Thorne’s dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the bank, our customers, employees, and the communities he has proudly served throughout his life have been invaluable.”
Angell joined the KCSB Board of Directors in May 1976 and became chairman in April 2006. In addition to his service on the board, he established a successful real estate and appraisal career after completing active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1971.
Home from military service, Angell earned his real estate and appraiser licenses in 1972. He opened a small office next to the bank drive-through in Schoolcraft at the location where Subway is now. In 1975, he became a licensed real estate broker and built a successful career in the real estate and appraisal profession. His real estate and appraisal office has remained in the Schoolcraft community throughout his career.
In 1992, Angell earned his Certified General Appraiser designation, the highest level of appraisal licensure available, recognizing his extensive knowledge, experience, and expertise in real estate valuation. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the industry, the Greater Kalamazoo Area Realtors honored Angell in 2022 for 50 years of dedicated service.
Committed to public service, Angell joined the Schoolcraft Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter in 1975. During his 19 years with the department, he advanced through the ranks and served as Fire Chief for four years.
“As a local real estate broker and small business owner, I quickly realized that the bank and I shared the same values — helping our neighbors, supporting local businesses, and making our community stronger,” Angell said. “Serving on the bank’s Board of Directors has been an honor and a privilege. I’m grateful for the friendships, partnerships, and opportunities to give back over the years, and I look forward to continuing to support the bank and the communities we serve.”
