Back to school means back to regular program calendars for area churches. Instead of mourning the end of long, lazy days and easy summer schedules, Lakeland Reformed Church (LRC) has decided to embrace the transition and celebrate, according to Pastor Ed Schmidt.

Lakeland invites anyone in the greater Vicksburg community to join in the fun, he said. A free community pig roast is planned for Sunday, September 13. In addition to great food and root beer floats you can enjoy live music, games for all ages, a bounce house, antique cars and an exhibit from the Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary.

Activities will begin at 11 a.m. and continue throughout the event. The LRC crew will start serving the pig at 11:30 and break out the root beer floats soon after. “We have ordered a full pig so your taste buds are very much in need,” Schmidt said. “Don’t leave the church with 50 pounds of uneaten food. Round up family and friends and gather at 10442 Sprinkle Road for a fabulous day of fun and fellowship.”

For this special Sunday event, Lakeland will combine its two morning services into one that begins at 10 a.m.
