Vicksburg’s cross country teams are having an exciting season so far, especially after the boys took second in the bronze division at the Michigan State University Spartan Invitational.
Head coach Lucas Wolthuis said the teams went into the meet expecting to do well, but things ended up even better than expected. While some other teams struggled in warmer than normal conditions, the Bulldogs thrived, especially since the boys team in particular is more loaded with talent than last year.
At the same event, the girls team finished 24. But considering the team has only nine runners, that’s not a bad spot to be.
In other meets this season, the boys picked up a big win over Edwardsburg while the girls came just three points away from the Eddies. There are still a lot of tough teams around the Wolverine the Bulldogs will have to contend with, especially Otsego, Plainwell and South Haven.
But it’s not just faster times Wolthuis is happy with this season. “The culture of the team is good. The kids have bought in,” he said.
