By Marilyn Jones, Schoolcraft’s Poet Laureate
There’s a prism on my kitchen window
It hangs silently there each day,
What a pretty, crystal bauble
But here is what I want to say …
In the afternoon it’s different
When it takes on a life full of fun,
It shimmers and casts rainbows
Reflecting the room with rays from the sun.
The hues of pink, green and yellow
Along with lavender and blue,
I grasp at all those rainbows
And make wishes … quite a few.
They never fail to make me smile
I enjoy the colorful message they bring,
To make wishes for all the people I love
Is a silly ritual, but makes my heart sing.
So, if your day was pleasant
Things went okay with what you wanted to do,
Just maybe, it’s because of my prism
And my rainbow wish when I was thinking of you!
