Don Wiertella was recently recognized for his outstanding contributions to Vicksburg Historical Society.
At a December meeting of the group’s Board of Trustees, he was presented with one of the organization’s most prestigious awards, the Meritorious Service Award for Lifetime Achievement. His wife, Maureen, family members and friends were present for the ceremony.
Over a period of many years Don helped lead Vicksburg Historical Society as board president, secretary, trustee and membership chairperson. He has been the “go-to guy” for many projects as well as the leader of several committees and study groups. Wiertella served as the organization’s Harvest Festival chairperson for several years and has been instrumental in successful grant applications. He is currently involved with grant writing and the ongoing effort to have Union Depot added to the State Register of Historic Sites.
Wiertella is also actively involved in several other area community organizations and will continue his volunteer work for Vicksburg Historical Society.
