A committee helping to organize Michigan’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence has provided a $5,000 grant to Vicksburg’s Historical Society.
The society will use the grant for software improvements which will help preserve its collection and allow the public to access it remotely.

“This project will transition our desktop-based PastPerfect artifact cataloging software to the web-based subscription version,” the society said in a prepared statement. “This upgrade will help preserve and build upon our existing collection and allow the public to remotely access our inventory of over 30,000 artifacts. Upgrading to the web-based system will ensure the digital archives are automatically backed up and protected from loss.”

The grant came from the America250MI Committee, the creation of the Historical Society of Michigan and the Michigan History Center, both directed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to organize the state’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
