Theresa “Terri” A. Kelley, of Scotts, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the age of 73. She was born on May 21, 1952, and was the daughter of Raymond and Alice (Ford) Newton. Terri lived a life marked by devotion, resilience, and an enduring spirit that touched all who knew her.
Terri grew up in Vicksburg, where she graduated from Vicksburg High School. During her high school years, she was an active member of the Future Homemakers of America, an early reflection of her lifelong commitment to her family. After dedicating time to raising her two sons, Scott and Tony, she returned to the workforce and devoted in total over 46 years to Stewart Sutherland in Vicksburg.
Her family remembers Terri as caring, outgoing, and genuinely great-hearted. She took immense pride and joy in her role as a wife and mother, finding her proudest moments in watching her sons and grandchildren grow into remarkable individuals, which is a legacy she held most dear. Her marriage to William “Bill” Kelley on June 3, 1999, was a treasured chapter of her life, symbolizing partnership and love.
Terri’s passions extended beyond her family and work. She was an avid traveler throughout the State of Michigan, with a special fondness for the Upper Peninsula and the scenic Mackinac Bridge. She enjoyed creative such as sewing, crochet, and working with plastic canvas. She was deeply engaged in crafting until the end; she was in the middle of creating a special eagle for her sister. Her adventurous spirit shone through her rides on her Can Am Spider, embracing the freedom of the open road.
Terri gave generously of her time volunteering for the Youth Bowling League in Vicksburg, which would later move to the Continental Lanes in Kalamazoo. These acts of kindness underscored her lifelong dedication to nurturing the lives of young people around her.
Beyond her involvement and hobbies, Terri could be fondly remembered for the warmth and joy she brought during the holiday season. She especially loved Christmas, delighting in playfully challenging her grandchildren with gifts wrapped in multiple layers. Her thoughtful nature was also evident in the special gifts she carefully selected for the women in her family, leaving behind many cherished memories.
Theresa “Terri” A. Kelley’s life was one of loving commitment, creative activities, and enduring generosity. Although she has departed, those who knew her will carry forward the light she shared with her family, friends, and community. Her legacy remains alive in the hearts of her sons Scott and Tony, her husband William “Bill,” and her grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Raymond and Alice Newton. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Bill; two sons: Scott Strong, of Kalamazoo; Tony (Nancy) Strong, of Vicksburg; three stepchildren: Eric (Michelle) Kelley, of Mattawan; Jennifer (Jeff) Warns, of Vicksburg; Melanie (Scott) Newell, of Battle Creek; four grandchildren: Hunter Strong; Kyle (Emma) Strong; Logan Strong; Blake Strong, all of Vicksburg; and numerous step grandchildren that were all very special to her. She is also survived by her two siblings: Mike (Deb) Newton, of Battle Creek; and Linda Diffendal, of IN; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Terri at the funeral home on Saturday, June 6th at 11am. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10am.
