John Joseph Miller, Sr., 75, of Vicksburg, MI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the age of 75. John was born on October 29, 1950, in Philadelphia, PA. He was the son of William and June Miller. John’s life was a testament to dedication, faith, and kindness.
Growing up in Philadelphia and spending cherished time around Cape May, NJ. John’s father passed away at a young age. John loved the Cape May area so well, that he lived on his own at the family home there at a young age. He had a passion for fishing his entire life and loved to be close to the water. He even once was a fly-fishing guide. His education started in the Catholic schools and then he earned his associate’s degree in Aquaculture. He later set his sights on becoming an electrician. Achieving his license in his thirties, John’s industrious nature led him to establish his own business, Miller Electric.
For 55 years, John shared his life with Ruth Porter, the love of his life whom he met during a blind date while they were both living in Dallas, TX. They married on March 19, 1971, beginning a union grounded in love.
John’s family remembers him as selfless, smart, independent, generous, and kind. His great sense of humor brought light into every room he entered. He devoted himself to caring for others, never failing to offer support or a warm smile when it was most needed.
A man of varied interests, John was especially fond of gardening. He had a skill for growing the hottest peppers he could find. His time living in South Carolina led him to the Carolina Reaper peppers. He enjoyed the challenge and savoring the fruits of his labor. He also found joy in making cheese and was renowned among friends and family for crafting the best pizzas.
John’s adventurous spirit extended beyond his home. He cherished sharing stories of his time as a missionary in Brazil, giving his family insight into another culture and underscoring his lifelong desire to care for and connect with others. He loved each of his five grandchildren so much and was devoted to them and was known as their, “Pop Pop”.
Christmas held a special place in John’s heart, rooted in his deep faith in the Lord. His long white beard and joyful presence often led children to believe he was Santa Claus. This is a role John eagerly embraced, spreading smiles and laughter wherever he went. Despite his health keeping him from attending church in person, John remained steadfast in his spiritual life, faithfully watching The Bridge Church online to stay connected with his community and beliefs.
John Joseph Miller, Sr.’s legacy is one of unwavering faith, deep devotion to loved ones, and a generous heart that touched many. His strength, humor, and kindness will continue to inspire all who had the good fortune to know him.
