January 11, 2022 marked the grand opening of the new KALSEE Credit Union branch at 119 North Main Street in Vicksburg. The event included a ribbon cutting, appreciation speeches and visits with local and state government representatives.

KALSEE CEO Matt Lahman shared the credit union’s story which began in 1954 when employees of National Water Life in Kalamazoo met to form the Lift Line Credit Union (named for the Lift Line product line), to help meet the financial needs of fellow employees. The company grew, amended its charter to serve more companies, and eventually changed its name to KALSEE (Kalamazoo South East Employees) Credit Union. Through the years several company-based credit unions merged with KALSEE and multiple area companies partnered with them. This journey led to the adoption of a community charter; the credit union can now serve anyone who lives, works, or attends school in Allegan, Barry, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph or Van Buren counties.

According to Lahman, the exciting things happening in and around the Village of Vicksburg “make this location an excellent fit. I’m excited to grow the connection KALSEE has with the people of Vicksburg and the South County area.”

Branch Manager Ryan Wagner said “The Vicksburg Community has been asking for a credit union for years.” People have been warm and welcoming, he said, adding that he looks forward to building more relationships within the community. Wagner enjoys working for KALSEE and believes in the mission statement, “Building relationships and cultivating financial wellness, empowering people to focus on what matters.”

KALSEE has already supported several Vicksburg non-profits and events, including the Harvest Fest, Christmas in the Village, Christmas Card Lane, and the Vicksburg Historical Society.
