Schoolcraft girls basketball wins district title

With an up-and-down season, the Schoolcraft girls’ basketball team made it through districts to the Regionals semifinals.

After beating the Centreville Bulldogs 49-22 in the first district game, the team headed into the district championship game against the Lawton Blue Devils. Each team wanted to take that Michigan-shaped trophy back to their school. It was a game in which neither team dominated. Once the final buzzer sounded, the Golden Eagles huddled in the middle of the Centreville court hoisting the trophy after defeating the Blue Devils 46-42.

The team next met the Comets of Kalamazoo Christian in the Regional Semi-Final game. The Golden Eagles had lost to the Comets twice during the season: 16-48 at home and 32-44 away.

Schoolcraft hoped they could top them on the third meeting. Unfortunately, the Comets were just too strong that night, ending the Golden Eagles season with a 47-30 win. The Comets then lost to Brandywine 59-42 in the championship game.

Schoolcraft finished the season in 4th place of the Valley Division of the SAC Conference with a record of 12-13. Three Golden Eagle players received honors: sophomore Addison Sziede was named Honorable Mention All-Conference and seniors Liv Ellison and Mia Mulder were named 1st team All-Conference.
