Tradition means a lot to the Schoolcraft 4th of July Committee. The past 6 years have been rough. Two years of Covid, a year of Grand St. with major construction, and last year being told that there were not enough police officers to work the parade. Despite all the setbacks, this Committee fights for the tradition to continue.

It was suggested that an alternative parade route be used this year. The highway would not have to be shut, and fewer officers would be needed. The Committee stood firm and said the parade must go down Grand St. The job of finding additional officers began early this year and many Kalamazoo County Police departments worked together to help reach the goal.

Donations have been down. Due to the economy and questions about finding enough officers, donors have been hesitant. Every dollar donated will go towards fireworks. The size of the firework show will be determined in mid-June.

The Schoolcraft 4th of July Committee raises funds all year long. This year there were hopes of making the 250th anniversary of our USA a bigger and better celebration. The Traditional Parade and Fireworks are scheduled as planned.
