Diabetes Workshop to be Offered at SCCS

The Diabetes Path: Six Weeks to Better Health is a class being offered by South County Community Services (SCCS) through the services of the Area Agency on Aging, according to Danna Downing, executive director of SCCS.

The six week workshop will meet beginning May 22 and run through June 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

The workshop is for adults who have diabetes and the challenges that go with it, she said. Family members, friends, and caregivers also are helped by the workshop.

The tools to better manage the symptoms of diabetes will be stressed. Those who attend will learn how to talk with doctors about the disease and, in general, learn to improve their health, Downing said, as she urges people to attend who could benefit.

“It was a very helpful class and allowed me to take a new look at helping myself with diabetes,” said a previous class member. “Meal planning is very helpful and an activity that I need to do more of. Sharing was helpful. Thanks for the opportunity to take this class.”
